Difference between 'Data Not Available' and 'Record Deleted' error messages when accessing a record

Udgivelsesdato: Jun 29, 2026
Beskrivelse
When users tries to access a record, they might encounter either of the following errors:
  • Record Deleted. The record you attempted to access has been deleted. The user who deleted this record may be able to recover it from the Recycle Bin. Deleted data is stored in the Recycle Bin for 15 days.
  • Data Not Available. The data you were trying to access could not be found. It may be due to another user deleting the data or a system error. If you know the data is not deleted but cannot access it, please look at our support page.
This might cause confusion to users as both errors are explaining that the error is due to the record being deleted.

Here is the explanation of the difference between the two error messages:

  • Record Deleted means the record was deleted by a user and is currently in the Recycle Bin, or has been removed from the Recycle Bin but has not yet been fully purged from Salesforce's backend systems. In this case, the record ID still exists in the system. The user who deleted the record can recover it from the Recycle Bin within 15 days of deletion by navigating to the Recycle Bin from the App Launcher.
  • Data Not Available means the record cannot be found in any system state. This occurs when the record has been permanently purged (past the 15-day Recycle Bin window), when a system error occurred, or when the record ID never existed. If you are certain the record was not deleted, contact Salesforce Support with the record ID and the timestamp when the error first appeared.
