Unable to Update the Forecast Category Field on a Salesforce Opportunity

This article explains why the Forecast Category field can't be edited by most users, and offers a workaround.

Cause

The Forecast Category field is controlled by the Opportunity Owner to ensure forecast accuracy. Allowing other users to edit this field could result in forecasts that don't reflect the owner's sales judgment.

Workaround

As a workaround, System Administrators can use an Autolaunched Flow to update the Forecast Category on behalf of another user, as described in Update the Forecast category for the Opportunity owned by another user.
