Salesforce Page Layout Shows 'Last Modified By Automated Process' After Custom Field Deletion

Beschreibung

Issue :

A page layout may show "Last Modified by Automated Process" when there was no modification made in the page layout. This might not be caught in the setup audit trail as well.

Cause  :

This behavior occurs when a custom field that was part of a page layout is soft-deleted. Salesforce permanently deletes soft-deleted custom fields 15 days after the initial deletion. When the automated permanent deletion process runs and removes the field from the page layout, the 'Last Modified By' field on the page layout is updated to 'Automated Process'."

How to Confirm  :

To confirm this is the cause:

1. Navigate to Setup > View Setup Audit Trail.

2. Identify the soft-deletion date of the custom field.

3. Check the Last Modified Date of the page layout — it should be exactly 15 days after the custom field's soft-deletion date.

Lösung
While there might be other reasons, one reason why this would happen is when a custom field on the object is deleted and goes through an automated permanent deletion process 15 days after the custom field is soft deleted. When this field is permanently deleted and it was part of a page layout, the automated permanent delete process results in showing the "Last Modified By" of the page layout as "Automated Process". This can be confirmed by getting the soft deletion date of the custom field from the setup audit trail and checking if the Last Modified date of the page layout is exactly 15 days after the soft deletion date of the custom field.
