Issue :
A page layout may show "Last Modified by Automated Process" when there was no modification made in the page layout. This might not be caught in the setup audit trail as well.
Cause :
This behavior occurs when a custom field that was part of a page layout is soft-deleted. Salesforce permanently deletes soft-deleted custom fields 15 days after the initial deletion. When the automated permanent deletion process runs and removes the field from the page layout, the 'Last Modified By' field on the page layout is updated to 'Automated Process'."
How to Confirm :
To confirm this is the cause:
1. Navigate to Setup > View Setup Audit Trail.
2. Identify the soft-deletion date of the custom field.
3. Check the Last Modified Date of the page layout — it should be exactly 15 days after the custom field's soft-deletion date.
