Enable Extended Recycle Bin Retention in Salesforce Classic and Lightning

When users accidentally delete records, you have 15 days to recover them from the Recycle Bin. If your team needs more time to identify and restore deleted data, you can extend this retention period to 30 days. The Extended Recycle Bin Retention feature extends the default retention period from 15 days to 30 days and must be activated by Salesforce Support.

Contact Manager, Group, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer

How to Activate:

Submit an activation request with Salesforce Support

Prerequisites:

Review the Salesforce documentation on managing the Recycle Bin and considerations for restoring records before submitting an activation request.

Requesting Activation:

If you've reviewed all relevant documentation and still need assistance with activating this feature, please have a System Administrator create an activation request with Support.

Support will review the activation request and action it as needed.

Post Activation Steps:

Once activated, the Recycle Bin retention period will automatically extend to 30 days. Please note the following important behaviors after activation:

  • The retention period can only be set to 15 or 30 days — there is no option for a custom retention value.

  • The 30-day retention extension is only fully accessible in Salesforce Classic (Home Page → Recycle Bin). If your organization uses Lightning Experience, you may need to switch to Salesforce Classic to find and restore records deleted more than 15 days ago.

How to Access the Recycle Bin:

  • In Lightning Experience: Click App Launcher → View All → Recycle Bin

  • In Salesforce Classic: Left sidebar of the Home Page
