Read-only custom fields lose their value when cloning a record

Date de publication: Jun 15, 2026
Description

When cloning a record in Salesforce, custom fields that are set to Read-Only for the cloning user do not retain their values in the newly cloned record. The cloned record shows those fields as blank.
For example:

  • A record contains a read-only text field with the value "Test."
  • A user without Edit access to that field clones the record.
  • In the newly cloned record, the read-only field is blank.

This behavior applies when fields are set to Read-Only via Field Level Security (FLS) or via Page Layout settings.

Résolution

This is currently working as designed since read-only fields are not sent to the server when a case is cloned. This doesn't affect admins since they have the "Edit Read-Only fields" or users who have edit access via Field Level Security and Page Layout settings.

Note: This impact will be effective when the fields are set to "Read Only" from Field Level Security as well as Page layout.
