Lightning Sync for Microsoft Exchange — Set Up Contact Sync Configuration

Date de publication: Jul 17, 2026
Description

Lightning Sync for Microsoft Exchange allows Salesforce users to sync Contacts and Events between Microsoft Exchange and Salesforce. If a user is unable to sync contacts, this article provides steps for an administrator to create a Lightning Sync configuration and assign users to it.
Note: Lightning Sync supports a maximum of 50,000 Contacts per sync. The first sync for users may not be real-time and could take several hours to complete in order to ensure maximum performance for all users.

Create a Lightning Sync Configuration in Salesforce Classic

  1. Go to Setup > Administer > Outlook Integration and Sync > Settings.
  2. Expand the section "Let users sync Contacts, Events or both between Microsoft Exchange and Salesforce".
  3. Under Define Sync Settings, click the New Config button.
  4. Complete the configuration and add users.

Create a Lightning Sync Configuration in Lightning Experience

  1. Click the gear icon and go to Setup > Email > Outlook Integration and Sync.
  2. Expand the section "Let users sync Contacts, Events or both between Microsoft Exchange and Salesforce".
  3. Under Define Sync Settings, click the New Config button.
  4. Complete the configuration and add users.

Understanding the Salesforce_Sync Folder

After users are added to an active Exchange Sync configuration, Lightning Sync automatically creates a Salesforce_Sync folder as a subdirectory under the Contacts directory in each user's Exchange account. If this folder is not created automatically, the user can create it manually.
Users syncing contacts from Exchange to Salesforce (or syncing both ways) can choose which contacts sync by moving them into the Salesforce_Sync folder.

Lightning Sync Contact Limit

Lightning Sync allows a maximum of 50,000 Contacts to sync per user.
