Salesforce no longer bundles Java with the Data Loader installer for Windows. Users must download and install the correct version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) separately on their Windows computer before installing Data Loader.
Installing an incorrect version of Java — whether older or newer than the specified requirement — may cause the Data Loader installation to fail or result in unexpected behavior at runtime. The Java version listed in the Data Loader system requirements is not a minimum; it is the exact required version for that specific Data Loader release.
Review Considerations for Installing Data Loader to identify the exact version of Java required to install and run Data Loader. The Java version listed is the actual requirement for that version of Data Loader — not a minimum. Running an older or newer version of Java may cause the installation to fail or the Data Loader to not perform as expected.
If using Data Loader in batch mode from the Command Line, set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to the directory where Zulu OpenJDK is installed.
Zulu OpenJDK is a certified, open-source build of OpenJDK provided by Azul Systems and is the recommended Java distribution for Salesforce Data Loader. Setting JAVA_HOME ensures that the command-line Data Loader process uses the correct Java installation when multiple Java versions are present on the machine.
