Remove Configuration Settings in Salesforce for Marketing Cloud Connect

Issues may appear after a Marketing Cloud Connect update or after a sandbox refresh, including:

  • Unexpected inability to send from within Salesforce
  • Users don't have the expected access as either Salesforce System Administrators or Marketing Cloud Administrators.
  • Error messages stating a specific Business Unit is not configured correctly.
  • Error: Sorry, something went wrong. We couldn't retrieve the API User details.

 

Løsning

Use the steps below to clear the Configuration Settings within your Salesforce organization:

Prerequisites:

  • Username/Password for Marketing Cloud API User used by the Integration
  • User is a System Administrator in Salesforce
 

Add the 'Configurations' Tab

1. Click Setup
2. Follow the steps based on your UI:

Salesforce Classic: Under the "Create" category, select Tabs.
Salesforce Lightning: Under the "User Interface" category, select Tabs.

3. Click New.
4. Choose "Configurations" from the Object drop-down menu.
5. Pick any Tab style.
6. Click NextNextSave.
 

Delete Stored Configuration

1. Click the Plus symbol on the tab bar.
2. Click on the Configurations link.
3. Choose All under the "View" drop-down, and then click Go.
4. Delete the existing Configuration Object.

Note: Alternatively, you can also delete the existing Configuration Object via Developer Console by following these steps:
1. Navigate to the Developer Console.
2. Click Debug.
3. Open Execute Anonymous Window.
4. Paste in the following: et4ae5.SupportUtilities.resetConfiguration();
5. Click Execute.
6. The configuration is now available to be set up again.

 

>Please note that prior Marketing Cloud Connect Settings may be lost if you have previously established a connection. We highly recommend documenting or taking a screenshot of your current settings before making any changes. This precautionary step ensures you can restore your settings if necessary. Reconfigure Marketing Cloud Connect

1. Click the Marketing Cloud Tab.
2. Enter the Marketing Cloud API Username and Password.
3. Select values for Send Types, Target Audience, Exclusion Audience, Support Ticket Recipient, and Tracking Preferences.
4. Click Marketing Cloud Tab once more, re-integrate individual Users as needed.

 

  • When connecting for the first time and performing the above steps, be aware that it may result in the disabling of Tenant-Specific OAuth Endpoints for the account. To prevent an "Attempt to de-reference a null object" error, please ensure you enable these endpoints.   • If enhanced domains have been enabled since Marketing Cloud Connect was first configured, you may receive an error related to Remote Site Settings when reconfiguring Marketing Cloud Connect."IO Exception: Unauthorized endpoint, please check Setup->Security->Remote site settings endpoint = {specific url}"

  • Should you receive this error, please follow the steps below to update the Remote Site Settings and attempt to reconfigure again.
  1. Login to Salesforce
  2. Navigate to Setup > Security > Remote Site Settings
  3. Search for "MetadataAPI"
  4. Click Edit
  5. Replace the existing URL with the URL contained in the error message
  6. Click Save
