Unable to Access a Page Due to 'Value Exceeds Maximum Length' or 'Character Not Allowed' Error in Salesforce Outlook Integration

Udgivelsesdato: May 11, 2026
Beskrivelse

When using the Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) side panel to open a Contact record in Salesforce from Microsoft Outlook, you may encounter the following error message:
"The value of the 'id' parameter contains a character that is not allowed or the value exceeds the maximum allowed length. Remove the character from the parameter value or reduce the value length and resubmit."
This error typically occurs due to corrupted temporary Internet files, outdated cached data, or misconfigured Internet Explorer settings that interfere with how the Salesforce Outlook Integration (SFO) constructs and passes record IDs to the browser.
Note: Internet Explorer (IE) reached end-of-life in June 2022. If you are using Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or another modern browser, try clearing your browser cache and cookies as a first step instead of the IE-specific steps below.

  4. Check the boxes for: Temporary internet files and website files, History, and Cookies and website data.
  5. Click Delete.

Step 3: Set Internet Explorer as Default Browser

  1. From the Programs tab in Internet Options, set Internet Explorer as the default browser.

Step 4: Reset Internet Explorer Defaults

  1. From the Advanced tab of Internet Options, click Reset to restore Internet Explorer defaults.
  2. Click OK to close Internet Options.

Step 5: Verify the Fix

  1. Launch Internet Explorer and log in to Salesforce.
  2. Launch Outlook and click on a Contact name from the SFO side panel to verify the Contact record displays correctly in the browser.
