When using the Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) side panel to open a Contact record in Salesforce from Microsoft Outlook, you may encounter the following error message:
"The value of the 'id' parameter contains a character that is not allowed or the value exceeds the maximum allowed length. Remove the character from the parameter value or reduce the value length and resubmit."
This error typically occurs due to corrupted temporary Internet files, outdated cached data, or misconfigured Internet Explorer settings that interfere with how the Salesforce Outlook Integration (SFO) constructs and passes record IDs to the browser.
Note: Internet Explorer (IE) reached end-of-life in June 2022. If you are using Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or another modern browser, try clearing your browser cache and cookies as a first step instead of the IE-specific steps below.
To fix this error, clear the Internet Explorer browsing history, set Internet Explorer as the default browser, and reset Internet Explorer to its default settings. These steps remove cached or corrupted data that may be causing the Salesforce Outlook Integration to pass an invalid record ID.
