Ampersands and URLs in the Marketing Cloud Email Editor

Description
The ampersand character can be entered into the Email Editor using the "&" character itself or the HTML entity, "$amp;" Depending on where the &, or "&" is entered and how, determines how it appears in the sent email's URL.

Content with an ampersand can be pasted into the content areas using the options below:

 

Paste into an email created from pasted HTML

  • If & is pasted into the editor, the & will be contained in the sent email's URL.
  • If & is pasted as part of a URL, the URL in the sent email will contain &
 

Paste into an HTML-only content area

  • If & is pasted into the editor, the & will be contained in the sent email's URL.
  • If & is pasted as part of a URL, the URL in the sent email will contain &
 

Paste into the HTML tab of a free-form content area

  • If & is pasted into the editor, the & will be contained in the sent email's URL.
  • If & is pasted as part of a URL, the URL in the sent email will contain &
 

Paste into the Edit tab of a free-form content area

  • If & is pasted into the editor, the & will be contained in the sent email's URL.
  • If & is pasted into editor, the URL in the sent email will be convert & to &. 
 

Highlight the text and use the Link Properties feature on the Edit tab of a free-form content area

  • If & is pasted into the editor, the & will be contained in the sent email's URL.
  • If & is pasted into the "Link URL" field in Link Properties, the URL in the sent email will be convert & to &.
