Sales & Service: Increase the Maximum Limit of Controlling Picklist Values

Julkaisupäivä: Apr 22, 2026
Kuvaus

This article explains how to request an increase to the maximum number of Controlling Picklist values allowed in your organization. Dependent picklists filter values in one picklist based on another. For example, a Country picklist (controlling) filters the State/Province picklist (dependent) to show only relevant regions. The default limit is 300 controlling values, but organizations with extensive geographic or product hierarchies may need more.

Salesforce Support can assist in increasing this limit up to the maximum allowed value.

Available Editions:

Group, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer

Limit Details:

Default Limit: 300 controlling picklist values

Maximum Limit: 500 controlling picklist values

How to Increase:

Submit a limit increase request with Salesforce Support

Prerequisites:

Review Salesforce documentation on how Dependent Picklists function before submitting a limit increase request. Requests should be based on your organization's specific business need and not simply for the maximum limit allowed.

Requesting a Limit Increase:

If you've reviewed all relevant documentation and still need assistance with increasing this limit, please have a System Administrator create a limit increase request with Support.

Important Notes:

  • This is an organization-wide limit, meaning the increase will apply to controlling picklist fields on all objects across your org.
  • Increases to this limit in Production are not automatically carried over to Sandbox. A separate limit increase request must be submitted for each Sandbox requiring an increase. Be sure to provide the Salesforce ID of the Sandbox in your case.
  • We encourage the limit increase request to be based on your organization's business need and not simply for the maximum limit of 500.
