This article applies to Salesforce Reports & Dashboards in both Classic and Lightning Experience.
When adding a filter to a dashboard with components that use a combination of Standard and Custom Opportunity Report Types, the Opportunity Owner Role (or equivalent fields) does not appear as a filter option for the dashboard.
The Opportunity Owner Role field in the standard report type references a field called Role Name as displayed on reports. The Owner Role field added through Custom Opportunity Report Types via a lookup uses the standard Role Name field. These are two different fields and are not treated as equivalent by Salesforce Dashboards. As a result, Opportunity Owner Role does not appear as a dashboard filter option when standard and custom report types are combined.
The equivalent of Role Name as displayed on reports in the custom report type is called Description.
To add the Description field to the Custom Report Type, use the following lookup path:
Opportunities > Owner > Role > Description
After adding the Description field through this path, Opportunity Owner Role should appear as an available dashboard filter option.
