Users unable to authenticate and no attempt registered in login history

Date de publication: Apr 22, 2026
Description

Newly created users may be unable to log in and receive a "Please check your username and password. If you still can't log in, contact your Salesforce administrator." error. When checking Login History, no login attempts are registered for the affected user. This typically occurs when users are created via API with trailing spaces in their username.

Résolution
If this user was created through the API and not the standard UI, it is possible the affected user has a trailing space appended to their username, which results in a failed login attempt.

Note:

This issue will only occur when creating users through the API. When creating a list of users in a CSV file, if a space is added at the end of the username, this space is not trimmed off — therefore any subsequent logins require the space to be present, causing the login to fail.

Steps to Resolve:

  1. Navigate to Setup and open the affected user's profile
  2. Click into the Username field
  3. Press Ctrl+A (Windows) or Cmd+A (Mac) to highlight all data in the field
  4. Delete all data in the field
  5. Carefully re-type the user's username, ensuring there are no typos or trailing spaces at the end
  6. Save the user record
Once the username has been corrected, the affected user should be able to log in successfully.
