Create an Salesforce Order without a Contract

Description

Standard settings require a Contract to create an Order, however in some scenarios Contracts are not used. Contracts can be optional or not used at all. Here are instructions for each scenario.

 

Scenario: "For example, a Salesforce admin at a subscription-based company needs to create Orders directly from Accounts without requiring a Contract, since their sales process doesn't use the Contract object.

Resolution


Make Contracts optional when creating Order 

In Salesforce Classic

  1. Click Setup | Customize | Orders | Page Layouts.
  2. Click Edit next to the page layout name.
  3. Hover over "Contract Number" and click the wrench icon.
  4. Deselect Required.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Save.


In Lightning Experience

  1. Click the gear icon | Setup | Object and Fields | Object Manager | Order | Page Layouts.
  2. Click the page layout name.
  3. Hover over 'Contract Number' and click the wrench icon.
  4. Deselect Required.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Save.
