Error 'couldn't find the record you are trying to access' when using Global Actions in Lightning

Дата публикации: Jun 15, 2026
Описание

Users may find that they cannot create records when using the standard global actions in Lightning Experience such as New Task, New Event or Log a Call for example. After selecting the global action users are presented with the following error, "We couldn't find the record you're trying to access. It may have been deleted by another user, or there may have been a system error. Ask your administrator for help."

This issue typically occurs when the global action is assigned the default --Master-- record type instead of a specific available record type.

Root Cause

This error is typically caused by the global action being assigned the default placeholder --Master-- record type. Salesforce requires a specific record type to be selected for global actions to function correctly.

Resolution Steps

To resolve this an administrator can select an available record type for each affected global action:

  1. From Setup, enter Actions in the Quick Find box, then select Global Actions.
  2.  Click the Edit action link for the affected Actions
  3. Change the Record Type field's selection from --Master-- to another available record type.
  4. Save.

Note

  • This error also occurs when creating a 'New Task' after converting a Lead. Ensure that the Record Type selected in the 'New Task' global action is assigned to all Users either via the Profile/Permission Sets on the Task object.
  • This issue will occur in the Related Record lightning component if they use the default Create New action, and that they will need to use a different action with a specified record type.
