Salesforce Chatter: Increase the Maximum Number of Records or Users You Can Follow

Date de publication: Apr 22, 2026
Description

This article explains how to request an increase to the maximum number of records and users that can be followed in Salesforce Chatter. Chatter allows users to follow records — such as Opportunities, Accounts, Cases, and Contacts — and receive updates in their feed whenever those records change.

By default, an individual user can follow or subscribe to a maximum of 500 records and users in Chatter. When this limit is reached, users will see the error:

"You are subscribed to the maximum number of records. Unsubscribe from another record and try again."

For example, a sales manager actively following hundreds of Opportunities, Accounts, and team members can quickly reach the 500-item limit, preventing them from following any new records until they unfollow others. This limit can be raised as high as 2,000 by submitting a limit increase request with Salesforce Support.

Available Editions:

Developer, Enterprise, Group, Performance, Professional, and Unlimited

Limit Details

Default Limit: 500 records and users per individual user

Maximum Limit: 2,000 records and users per individual user

How to Increase:

Submit a limit increase request with Salesforce Support

Prerequisites:

Review Salesforce documentation on following records and the automatic follow behavior before submitting a limit increase request. As a best practice, also consider implementing an unfollow process to prevent users from exceeding the new limit in the future.
