Why the Send Notification Email Checkbox May Not Appear on Task Page Layout

In Salesforce, the "Send Notification Email" checkbox (also called the Email Notification Checkbox) controls whether an email notification is sent to the user assigned to a Task. This checkbox is only visible on the Task creation or edit page when two conditions are both met:

  1. The "Enable User Control over Task Assignment Notifications" setting must be configured correctly in the organization's Activity Settings (ActivitiesSettings metadata).
  2. The Task Page Layout must be configured to show the Email Notification Checkbox in its Layout Properties.

Users may find the checkbox still unavailable even after an administrator disables the "Enable User Control over Task Assignment Notifications" feature. This is because the page layout's Email Notification Checkbox visibility setting must also be explicitly enabled.

Steps to Enable the Send Notification Email Checkbox on a Task Page Layout

An administrator must add the Email Notification Checkbox to the Task Page Layout Properties for the affected user's assigned layout.
 
 

In Salesforce Lightning Experience

 

  1. Navigate to: Gear icon > Setup > Object Manager tab > Task > Page Layouts
  2. Click on the page layout name assigned to the affected user.
  3. Click Layout Properties.
  4. Under Email Notification Checkbox, select the option for Show on edit page.
  5. Optionally select Select by default to pre-check the box when creating Tasks.
  6. Save the layout.

 

In Salesforce Classic

 

  1. Navigate to: Setup > Customize > Activities > Task Page Layouts
  2. Click the Edit link next to the name of the page layout assigned to the affected user.
  3. Click the Layout Properties button in the page layout palette at the top of the screen.
  4. Ensure the option to Show on edit page for the Email Notification Checkbox is selected.
  5. Optionally select Select by default for your preferred default behavior.
  6. Save the layout.
