Use an Approval Process to send an email to record owner's manager in Salesforce Classic
1. Create an Email field on the opportunity called 'Manager Email.'
a) Click Setup | Customize | Opportunity | Fields.
b) Click New under 'Opportunity Custom Fields and Relationships.'
c) Select Email as the 'Data Type.'
2. After creating the custom Email field, Go to Setup | Create | Workflow & Approval | Approval Process. Then click the name of the Approval Process you would like to update.
a) Go to 'Initial Submission Actions' section.
b) Click Add New | Field Update.
c) Enter the Name.
d) Select Field to Update: Manager Email.
e) In 'Specify New Field Value' section, select Use a formula to set the new value.
f) Click Insert Field.
g) Select Opportunity | Owner | Manager | Email.
h) Click the Insert button.
i) You should notice the Formula Value 'Owner.Manager.Email'
j) Click Save.
