Trailhead FAQs

General

What is Trailhead?
Trailhead is an interactive learning path through the basic building blocks of the Salesforce Platform. Test your knowledge of the platform while earning points and badges to celebrate your achievements.

Content

What is a Unit, Module, or Trail?
Content in Trailhead is organized into Units, Modules, and Trails to help guide you through everything you need to know about the Salesforce Platform.

A Unit takes you through several learning objectives for a feature or tool of the Salesforce Platform. Most Units conclude with a Hands-on Challenge or Quiz that reinforces the learning objectives.

A Module is a series of Units for a particular subject area. Once you’ve completed all the Units in a Module, you will earn a Badge that will be displayed on your Salesforce Developers profile.

A Trail is a series of Modules, organized in a guided learning path to help you master different aspects of the Salesforce Platform.

Do you plan to add more content to Trailhead?
Trailhead is always evolving. Much more content is in the works (as you can see from the 'coming soon' modules). Stay tuned!

Challenges, Points, & Badges

What is a Challenge and how do they work?
A Challenge is an interactive exercise that tests your knowledge of a related Unit. Learners accept Challenges by attempting to complete them on a Developer Edition and allowing Trailhead to assess the outcome. Learners will need to log into a Developer Edition via Trailhead to allow a Challenge to be assessed. By completing a Challenge, you earn Points that get added to your Trailblazer profile.

How do I earn Points and Badges?
Points are earned when you complete each Unit. Badges are automatically earned when you finish all the Units in a Module. Earned Badges are displayed on your Trailblazer profile.

How can I share my progress with others?
Whenever you earn Points and Badges, you’ll have the option to show off your achievements via Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn. Badges and Points will also be displayed on your Trailblazer profile, so you can share a link to your profile with anyone you wish.

Using Trailhead

What is a Trailblazer profile?

A Trailblazer account is a single identity that you use to log in to and interact with multiple Salesforce-related sites.

Trailblazer accounts are used for sign-up, login, and profile and settings management with these Salesforce-related sites.
    • AppExchange
    • Commerce Cloud Developer Center
    • Events
    • IdeaExchange
    • Salesforce Help
    • Trailblazer Community
    • Trailhead
    • Salesforce+
    • Salesforce.com
    • Partner Community
When you log in to any of these websites, you’re logging in to your Trailblazer account, too. Some enhancements to your account that come with Trailblazer are:
    • Use an email address to log in to your account with no need to remember another password. When you log in using an email address, we send you a single-use code for that login instance.
    • Say goodbye to unintentional duplicate accounts. If you sign up with a verified email address or social and an account exists with that email address associated with it, your Trailblazer account links them.
    • Connect a personal email or social account, in addition to your work one, so you can access your profile no matter where your career takes you. Add more email accounts or socials on your Trailblazer account settings page.
Sign up for or log in to your Trailblazer account using an email address, social account, or Salesforce production account. You can’t use Salesforce sandbox accounts to sign up for or log in to Trailblazer.
To access the Partner Community, use the Trailblazer login credentials that you use to log in to your Salesforce Partner company. After you log in to the Partner Community with Trailblazer, you can access Partner Learning Camp and Talent Alliance.
The first time you log in to a community that uses Trailblazer accounts, you’re asked to provide some additional profile information. To update that information later, click your profile picture, and select Profile.

What is a Developer Edition?
The Developer Edition (DE) environment is where you develop Force.com applications for free. This account is free for life and can be used to complete Trailhead challenges. Learn more about Developer Editions by reviewing Salesforce Editions. If you don’t have one, signup here.

Should I create a new Developer Edition for Trailhead?
Learners can create Trailhead Playgrounds in Trailhead and each Challenge has instructions like whether to use Trailhead Playground org or special developer edition org. Those instructions will be mostly available in each Trailhead hands-on challenge badge.

How do I log in to Trailhead?
To log in to Trailhead, visit trailhead.salesforce.com and click "Log In" in the top right corner. You can sign in using your Salesforce, Google, LinkedIn, MuleSoft, Tableau, Marketing Cloud credentials or using Business Email. If you are a new user, you will be prompted to create a Trailblazer profile to get started.

How do I complete a Challenge?
If you’d like to complete a Challenge, make sure you logged into Trailhead account and follow the instructions in the Trailhead unit whether to launch the playground org needs to create a special developer edition org and follow along with the instructions to complete the challenge requirement.

Does Trailhead cost anything?
Nope! All Trailhead content is available for free. You can view all learning content without even logging in, but if you want to track your progress, complete Challenges, and earn Points and Badges, you will need to log in to Trailhead.

If I need to take a break from Trailhead, can I pick up where I left off later?
As long as you log in to Trailhead, you will be able to track your progress and pick up where you left off.

How much time should I expect to devote to each Trail or Module?
An estimate of the amount of time it takes to complete each Trail or Module is shared at the beginning.

Do I have to follow an entire Trail, or can I just learn about a specific topic?
You can choose any path you like through this content. The Trails are provided merely as a guide. The Modules are designed so that you can jump around and study only the content you need to master.

I think my work is correct, but the challenge verification is still giving me an error.
If you think you've completed the challenge correctly, but you are still getting errors, make sure your instance does not have a namespace prefix. What is a namespace prefix?
If you are still having trouble, use the 'Share Feedback' button in the footer to request support or to submit feature requests and other comments. Additionally, reach out to Salesforce Help & Training portal to log a case.
