Lead Capture Tasks are not inserting new leads in Marketing Cloud

Summary:

Lead Capture tasks that have stopped importing due to an expired authorization can be restored by refreshing the account's Facebook API token. 

Detail:

The Lead Capture tool allows the automatic of import of leads captured by Facebook Lead Ads into Marketing Cloud data extensions. 

Lead Capture accesses captured lead data through the Facebook API. If captured leads are not inserted into the associated data extension, the token used by Marketing Cloud to access the Facebook API may be expired. Additionally, Lead Capture supports only a single Facebook token. If the token is replaced by one that does not have access to existing lead forms, they will cease to import. 

At the time this article was written, error messaging to alert on failed tokens does not yet exist.

To refresh Lead Capture's Facebook API token:

1) Go to Facebook's App Settings page and remove the existing app authorization for Marketing Cloud Lead Capture

2) In the Lead Capture tool, click 'Create Lead Capture Task'. You will be prompted to authorize Marketing Cloud. Once this is granted, you may navigate away from the activity without creating a new lead capture task. The token has been refreshed. 

3) Lead Capture will begin importing new leads captured after the task is repaired. To verify insertion of new leads, inspect the data extension associated with the capture task. They are automatically generated, with the naming convention <Facebook Page Name> - <Lead Form Name>
