Quote Line Start Date is later than End Date in Salesforce CPQ

Publiceringsdatum: Jul 21, 2025
Beskrivning

There is no built-in validation rule that prevents a Quote Line or Quote Line Group Start Date to receive a value later than the Quote Line (Or Quote Line Group) End Date. In general, users can manually select any date for these fields regardless of the date range is possible in real time or not (Example: Start Date = 01/31/2025, End Date = 01/01/2025).

An invalid date range can also be encountered when using other date fields together such as First Segment Term End Date in the Quote object and Start Date in the Group object. In this use case, unsuspecting users quoting MDQ products may use the two fields together such that:

  • Quote Start Date = 01/01/2025, Subscription Term = 24 months
  • Group Start Date = 07/01/2025. All quote lines under this group inherit the Start Date. When quoting a Yearly MDQ product, then the following applies
    • Year 1: Start Date = 07/01/2025, End Date = 06/30/2026
    • Year 2: Start Date = 07/01/2026, End Date = 06/30/2027, which covers the entire 24-month term.
  • Finally, populate the First Segment Term End Date on Quote with 04/30/2025. For the MDQ lines, the new dates are
    • Year 1: Start Date = 07/01/2025, End Date = 04/30/2025. *Invalid date range exists.
    • Year 2: Start Date = 05/01/2025, End Date = 04/30/2026, etc. The other segments after Year 1 adjust according to the first segment's End Date.
Lösning
It is important to take a special note of the dates when using First Segment Term End Date and Group Start Date. Add a custom quote line validation rule to check if Start Date is later than End Date to prevent invalid terms from being entered. The calculation returns the validation error message for the user to review.
