Activity Metrics Cannot Be Enabled — Org Exceeds 3 Million Record Limit

Activity Metrics is a Salesforce feature that tracks email and calendar event engagement on key records, including Accounts, Contacts, Leads, Opportunities, and Contracts. It provides visibility into how frequently sales representatives are interacting with customers.
This error occurs when a Salesforce administrator attempts to enable Activity Metrics in an org that has more than 3 million total records (calculated by summing Accounts + Contacts + Leads + Opportunities + Contracts). When this threshold is exceeded, the following error message is displayed:
"Your org has a lot of data. To make sure that turning on Activity Metrics doesn't impact performance, contact Salesforce Customer Support. We can find a good time to turn it on."
This error prevents Activity Metrics from being enabled in the org.

Summary
As of July 2024, Salesforce does not support enabling Activity Metrics (AM) for organizations with more than 3 million records. The 3 million total is calculated by summing the number of Accounts, Contacts, Leads, Opportunities, and Contracts in the org.
To confirm whether your org exceeds the 3 million record limit and to calculate the entity total, follow the steps below.
Steps to Calculate Total Entity Count

  1. Log in to the org where you want to enable Activity Metrics.
  2. Navigate to Setup > Data Management > Storage Usage > Current Data Storage Usage.
  3. Locate and record the record counts for each of the following objects:
    1. Accounts
    2. Contacts
    3. Leads
    4. Opportunities
    5. Contracts
  4. Add the five values together. If the sum exceeds 3,000,000, Activity Metrics cannot be enabled in this org at this time.
