In Salesforce Maps Territory Planning, administrators and managers can manually reassign unit and container data between territories using the selection tools on the map. This article covers the five selection tools available, how to drag-and-drop selections, and how to use the Selection Details panel.
The Gear icon below Lasso tool in the quick access menu lets you customize the Selection Settings, or the default behavior of the selection tools. There are three different modes available:
Note: When a selection is made, only the units/containers rendered on the map would be selected. Make sure you zoom in far enough so that all the units/containers in that area are visible on the map and then make the selection.
Any of the tools can be used to start building a selection. To clear your current selection, you can click into space without an assignment (e.g., over the ocean), hit the Escape key, or click the Clear Selection button. You can add containers or units to an existing selection by holding the Shift key. If you want to quickly switch back to the Pan tool, you can hold Spacebar.
The quickest way to make a reassignment on the map is to drag-and-drop your selection from one area to another. Click and hold your mouse over a selection on the map to start the reassignment. Then, without releasing the mouse button, drag the selection over another area. The color of the selection will change to indicate which area you are about to reassign it to. Release the mouse button to complete the reassignment.
After making a selection on the map, additional options will appear at the bottom-right in the legend. You can use the dropdown to perform an action on your entire selection (e.g., Zoom To, Assign to Area, Export to CSV, Unassign, etc...). Adjusting your legend level will adjust what actions can be performed.
The Refine Selection button can be used to filter the legend view to the area and unit(s) selected. Once the legend has been refined, you can adjust the selection on the map and hit Apply to save it, or Cancel to revert back.
Use Undo and Red icons from the Application Toolbar to undo and redo any reassignments if necessary.
Note: You can use the undo/redo until you change your focus or otherwise end the session (e.g., close the browser window). Undo/redo cannot be used for area deletions or selection dissolve or to perform unassign operations.
Making a selection on the map also activates the Selection Details and Selection Summary section at the bottom of your map view. This panel has two states:
Selection
Selection Summary: Shows the value of what you currently have selected by area along with the numeric attributes from your legend configuration.
Selection Details: Shows the individual units that have been selected along with the numeric attributes from your legend configuration.
Preview
In addition to the functionality outlined above, you’ll also see the impact of moving a selection to the targeted area (appears when users are proposing an assignment, such as, when using the Assign To or Optimize functions). It also shows Proposed (Difference) for summary, and proposed assignments for details.
For both the Selection and Preview states, there is an option to search for a specific unit from the Selection Details tab.
