Mass update Opportunity Contact Roles with Data Loader

You can use the Data Loader to mass update Opportunity Contact Roles. When managing Opportunity Contact Roles in bulk — for example, updating the Role field or IsPrimary designation for hundreds of contacts across multiple opportunities — the Data Loader's Update operation provides an efficient alternative to manual record-by-record editing.

Prepare a CSV file with the required columns

 

  • Contact Role ID - In order to get the Contact Role IDs of all the existing Opportunity Contact Roles, export should be done first using Data Loader.

  • ContactId - The ID of the Contact(s) to be updated.

  • Role - The Role name to be assigned or updated. To find the Role name, navigate to Setup and enter Contact Roles on Opportunities into the Quick Find box.

  • IsPrimary - Specify whether the Contact being assigned or updated is designated as the primary Contact for the Opportunity. Enter TRUE for the primary Contact and FALSE for all other Contacts.


After the CSV file is created, proceed with the update.
 

 

Update Opportunity Contact Role records with Data Loader
 

  1. Click on Update and log in when prompted.
  2. Select Show all Salesforce objects.
  3. Click on Opportunity Contact Role.
  4. Click Browse and choose your file.
  5. Click Next and you will be prompted for the number of records the file you selected contains, click OK.
  6. Click Create or Edit a Map and Auto-Match Fields to Columns (If the fields don't auto map, drag and map accordingly).
  7. Click OK and then click Next.
  8. Click Browse and select the location you want your 'success' and 'error' files to download to.
  9. Click Finish and click Yes when prompted.
