Add 'Log a Call' Publisher Action for Salesforce on Outlook Integration Side Panel

The standard 'Log a Call' global action is not yet available under Outlook Integration side panel. However, there is a known workaround that we can do in order to have this functionality, and this is by creating a custom 'Log a Call' button that targets Task records for creation. If we add some predefined values, the created records could show as a Call type.

 Here are the workaround steps to create a custom 'Log a Call' button for Outlook integration with Salesforce:

 

  1. Go to Global Actions.
  2. Create a new action of type Create a Record, with Task as the target object, standard label type = Log a Call.
  3. On the next screen after you save, edit the layout to show the fields you want.
  4. Back on the main page for that action, notice the link to set predefined field values: here you can choose the Subtype field, and set it to Call, or the Status field and set it to Completed. Note: this step is optional.
  5. Now go to the 'Outlook Integration and Sync' node in Setup (this node name is new in Winter '19; for Gmail, use 'Lightning for Gmail and Sync'), and expand the Let Users access Salesforce Records from Outlook section.
  6. In the 'Email Application Publisher Layouts' section you may need to make a new one, but once you have one, edit it to include the new action you created in steps 2-4.
