Asset Upgrades in Salesforce CPQ

Publiceringsdatum: Aug 1, 2025
Beskrivning
The implementation below highlights the use case of replacing a previously purchased asset with a different asset in Salesforce CPQ. This feature is useful for processing product upgrades and can be initiated from within the quote line editor. Asset upgrades need to be enabled in the Org to support this feature. Asset products can then be defined to create mapping between the different assets. For the purpose of this article, we will work with a Source Asset, Middle Asset, and Target Asset.

Use Case - A customer purchased a Basic Package with subscription product options which has been contracted and paid. Within the contract's term, the customer requests to upgrade from the Basic Package to the Premium package.
  • Source Asset - Basic Package
  • Middle Asset - Price Difference Package
  • Target Asset - Premium Package

Enable Asset Upgrades

  1. Setup
  2. Installed Packages
  3. Configure > Salesforce CPQ
  4. Line Editor tab
  5. Enable Asset Upgrades

Products

Create an upgrade product for the Middle Asset. It can be cloned from the target product to ensure features, product options, and additional configuration details are copied. Afterwards, the following changes need to be made to both the Price Difference Package and the Premium Package to support asset upgrades. Here are items to update:

  1. Price Difference Package (Middle Asset)
    1. FIELD - Upgrade Target: Premium Package (Target Asset)
    2. RELATED LIST - Upgrade Sources: New Upgrade Source
      1. FIELD - Upgrade Product: Price Difference Package (Middle Asset)
      2. FIELD - Source Product: Basic Package (Source Asset)
  2. Premium Package (Target Asset)
    1. FIELD - Upgrade Source: Middle Package (Middle Asset)
    2. RELATED LIST - Upgrade Sources: New Upgrade Source
      1. FIELD - Upgrade Product: Premium Package (Target Asset)
      2. FIELD - Source Product: Middle Package (Middle Asset)

Upgrade Assets

  1. Amend your original contract
  2. In the amendment quote, click on the dropdown arrow next to Add Products in the quote line editor
  3. Select Upgrade Assets
  4. Select the existing asset
  5. Select the Price Difference Package (Middle Asset)
  6. Save quote
  7. Amendment Opportunity > Contracted
  8. Contract > Renewal Quoted/Forecast

After the amendment opportunity is contracted in step 7 above, the account's asset related list updates to reflect the correct asset, the Premium Package, and not the Price Difference Package. When you renew from a quote containing a middle/price-difference product, Salesforce CPQ automatically replaces them with their upgrade targets on the renewal quote.
