Long and Rich Text Area Fields Are Truncated on Export of Formatted Report or Printable View

When exporting Salesforce Lightning reports in Formatted Report view in Lightning or Printable View in Classic, Long Text Area and Rich Text Area fields, are truncated to 255 characters or as it appears on the report run page.

For example, a support manager exporting a Cases report with a Description field needs the full field content. Selecting Details Only export with .csv format ensures no truncation occurs.

When exporting Salesforce Lightning reports, to export the entire content of the field, select the export view as Details Only with .csv or .xls formats.


Notes:

  • Long and Rich Text Area fields will continue to be truncated in the below scenarios
    • Report Run (UI)
    • Subscription to report as Excel
    • Subscription to report as CSV
    • Export as Formatted Excel
    • Export as Details Only Excel (Xlsx)
  • This is expected behavior, and currently there is no workaround. We have these limits because it degrades performance to display that much data with the volume of real-time reports being processed across the user base.
  • If the Long Text Area Fields are added on a Joined Report, the Details Only Export is not an available as an option when exporting the report. Change the report format to Report in order to have the Details Only option on export.
