Create Drive Profiles for Oversized Vehicles in Salesforce Maps

Publiceringsdatum: May 1, 2025
Beskrivning

Optimize routes for heavy trucks and other vehicles that can’t travel the same roads as passenger cars when you create drive profiles in Salesforce Maps. Account for vehicle size, weight, cargo, and other characteristics. This feature is available on desktop, and doesn’t apply to schedules.

Considerations for Optimizing Routes for Heavy Trucks

Route optimizations for oversized vehicles that qualify for the Heavy Truck profile consider specific ranges for vehicle parameters, which can differ from the ones that you specify in drive profiles. For example, Salesforce Maps supports the maximum vehicle height 4.6 meters, but you specify the vehicle height 5.0 meters. When Salesforce Maps optimizes routes, it creates routes for vehicles up to 4.6 meters—not 5.0 meters.

Review supported parameter ranges for Heavy Truck profiles.

ParameterMinimumMaximum
Height4.3 (meters)4.6 (meters)
Length12.5 (meters)19.0 (meters)
Width2.5 (meters)3.5 (meters)
Weight8,500 (kilos)15,000 (kilos)

Create Drive Profiles

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Tabs, and then select Tabs.
  2. For Custom Object Tabs, click New.
  3. Select Maps Drive Profile. Set a Tab Style and select Next
  4. Select the profiles that you want to have access to this object. Click Next. Select the custom app for the new tab. Then click Save.
  5. Navigate to the custom object from Setup > Object manager > Maps Drive Profile. Select Page layouts and click on Drive Profile Layout.
  6. From the page layout editor, include fields, such as Height, Weight, Driver Profile based on your requirements. Then click Save.
  7. To create a Driver profile, select the Salesforce Maps Drive Profiles tab. Then click New.
  8. Enter relevant details for your drive profile. Specify details, such as the vehicle's height, whether it carries hazardous materials, and the length. The Driver Profile doesn’t require customizations for Truck and Car selections. Click Save.
  9. To access the Drive Profile, select the vehicle in Routes. Then select the drive profile that you created.

Salesforce Maps creates routes based on the vehicle characteristics and restrictions that you added to the drive profile.

Truck profiles support up to 120 waypoints. Expect longer travel times because of road network suggestions for accommodating trucks. Limitations with the road network for oversized vehicles sometimes restrict routing to certain locations. For example, if the road network doesn’t identify viable paths for vehicle parameters in the drive profile, routes attempt to get drivers as close to final destinations as possible.

Keep in mind that for hazardous materials, avoid the Take Me There feature for third-party navigation apps, because it doesn’t necessarily consider those materials for routes.
