Salesforce Objects or Fields Not Available in Contact Builder or Journey Builder

When Marketing Cloud Connect is setup to integrate Marketing Cloud with Agentforce Sales (formerly Sales Cloud) and Agentforce Service (formerly Service Cloud), a Salesforce System User is used to establish the account-level connection between the clouds. It is the permissions assigned to this Salesforce System User in your Sales and Service org that determines the objects and fields that are available in Marketing Cloud via Marketing Cloud Connect.

The Salesforce System User that is configured for an existing integration is visible in Marketing Cloud within Setup > Apps > Salesforce Integration.

To prevent issues with objects and fields not being available in Marketing Cloud, we advise that you assign your Salesforce System User the System Administrator profile as this system generated profile has access to all objects and fields in your org by default. See the CRM Permissions section of the Help documentation Marketing Cloud Connect User Types and Permissions for more details.

When a profile other than System Administrator is granted you may observe that some objects or fields that exist in the Sales and Service are not available for selection when you attempt the following actions in Marketing Cloud:

To confirm if an object is not available in Marketing Cloud due to missing permissions, check the profile assigned to your Salesforce System User in Sales and Service. In Sales and Service, navigate to Setup and search 'Users' in the Quick Find. In Lightning Experience, select Users > Users under the Administrator section. In Salesforce Classic, select Manage Users > Users under the Administer section.

Find your Salesforce System User's username in the list of users and refer to the Profile column to see the profile that is assigned. If the profile assigned is not the System Administrator profile, you will need to review the object and field permissions assigned to that profile to determine if this is resulting in the object/field not being available in Marketing Cloud.

To avoid issues due to missing permissions, we recommend granting your Salesforce System User the System Administrator profile. To confirm that an object or field is not available in Marketing Cloud due to the permissions assigned to your Salesforce System User, we advise that you grant the user the System Administrator profile and review in Marketing Cloud if the missing object or field becomes available.

For objects that are still unavailable after granting System Administrator to your Salesforce System User, review the information in Salesforce Objects are not included in setup for Synchronized Data Sources for Contact Builder to confirm if all required settings are met for that object to be available for synchronization.

Reviewing a Sales and Service profile for missing permissions is out of the scope of Marketing Cloud support. Therefore, if you open a support case to report objects or fields that are missing in Marketing Cloud, Marketing Cloud support may request that you apply the System Administrator profile to your Salesforce System User to confirm that the issue relates to permissions missing from your custom profile.

If you have requirements that prevent you from granting the System Administrator profile to your Salesforce System User, you can review the following section for details on how to check if the profile you have granted is assigned the required object and field-level permissions.

Review Object and Field-Level Permissions Assigned to a Profile:

Access the profile by clicking the hyperlink in the Profile column listed in Users in Setup. The profile can also be accessed by searching 'Profiles' in the Quick Find search in Setup and selecting the relevant profile from within the Profiles section.

For an object that is not available in Marketing Cloud, check the assigned object permissions by finding the relevant object listed under the Standard Object Permissions or Custom Object Permissions section of the profile information. If the profile does not have the basic object permissions, such as Read, Create, Edit access, it will not be available in Marketing Cloud.

If a field on an object is not available in Marketing Cloud, you can check the Field-Level Security section of the profile assigned to your Salesforce System User. Find the relevant object listed under Standard Field-Level Security or Custom Field-Level Security and click the View hyperlink. This will open a list of the fields on the object and display if Read or Edit access on those fields have been granted to the profile.

If object or field-level permissions are missing you can grant them to the profile and review if the object/field becomes available in Marketing Cloud. Permissions can also be assigned to a user in Sales and Service using permission sets.
