Enabling Routing Role Security in Salesforce Maps

If Routing Role Security is enabled, Salesforce Maps will use your existing role hierarchy to restrict visibility into other users' routes and schedule calendars who are located above them in the hierarchy. Users who are assigned the same role will have visibility into those users' routes and schedule calendars. If this feature is disabled, users will be able to look at other users' routes and schedule calendars as well as create and assign routes to other users' calendars.

An example could be that an automotive car club member calls into a service center reporting her car has broken down. That support center representative then uses Salesforce Maps to locate the service center closest to the customer's location and creates a route for the driver to take in order to service this customer. Now that the service center rep has created the route he must save and assign the route to the driver. The support center representative notifies the driver of the newly assigned route with a Chatter notification.
