Description

A KML (Keyhole Markup Language) file is a geographic data format that can be used in Salesforce Maps as a visual data overlay. For example, a utility company can upload KML files showing fiber network routes across a region to visualize coverage gaps.

Instructions for Salesforce Lightning

Upload the KML File to the Files object in Salesforce Lightning

  1. Create a new library within the Files object specifically and name it SF Maps Files
  2. Select the newly created library and select Add Files.
  3. Upload and add the KML file.

 

Instructions for Salesforce Classic

Upload the KML File to the Documents object in Salesforce Classic 

  1. Create a new Document under the SF Maps Documents folder. 
  2. Name and Attach the KML file to the new document record.
  3. Click Save.


Notes: 

  • Salesforce Maps treats KMLs as a document and is bound to the 5MB size limit.
  • Salesforce Maps is unable to process KML files that were compressed and then unzipped from a KMZ. 
  • Some files might take more time to process, click the 'Wait' button if a popup appears.
  • KML Files are not supported for auto-assignment or the point in polygon global method.
