This guide helps new Quip users get set up quickly and start collaborating with their team. Whether you are accessing Quip from Salesforce or directly at your company's Quip site, these first steps will orient you with the key features and help you get productive on day one.
Add your name, job title, and profile photo so teammates can recognize you in documents and chat. Click your name in the bottom left and go to Account Settings > Profile.
Decide how you want to be notified about @mentions, document updates, and messages. Go to Account Settings > Notifications and configure your preferences for in-app, email, and push notifications.
Your team has likely already shared folders with you. Check your sidebar for folders shared by your teammates — these contain the documents, spreadsheets, and resources most relevant to your role. If you do not see any shared folders, ask your manager or Quip administrator to share the appropriate team folder with you.
Click the Compose button in the top left of the sidebar and select New Document. Type a title, add some content, and try formatting with headings and bullet points. This is your personal draft — share it when you are ready.
Find the documents you will use most often — your team's shared folder, a project plan, or your personal notes — and click the star icon to add them to your Favorites drawer for quick access. You can organize favorites into Collections by project or topic.
Ask your manager which team chat rooms you should be part of and request an invitation. Team chat rooms are where ongoing discussions happen outside of specific documents. Once added, introduce yourself in the room.
If your organization uses Quip embedded in Salesforce records, complete the one-time Salesforce-Quip connection the first time you open a Quip Document Component on a Salesforce record. Click Connect to Quip and follow the prompts. After this one-time setup, all Quip components in Salesforce work automatically for you.
