The Quip Favorites feature lets you bookmark documents, spreadsheets, and chat rooms for quick access from a dedicated drawer in the left sidebar. Collections add another layer of organization by grouping your favorites into named folders within the drawer — useful when you follow many documents across different projects. This article explains how to add and manage favorites and collections on both desktop and mobile.
To favorite a document:
Tip: Keep your favorites list focused — favoriting too many documents defeats the purpose of quick access. Aim to favorite only documents you return to weekly or more frequently.
Example: A sales rep favorites their key account plans, their territory overview document, and the team's shared pipeline tracker — giving them one-click access to their three most critical documents each morning.
To unfavorite a document, click the star icon again (it returns to an outline), or right-click the document in the Favorites drawer and select Remove from Favorites.
Collections are named groups within your Favorites drawer. To create one:
To view collection contents, expand the collection in the Favorites drawer. Collections show a notification count when documents inside them have new activity.
Right-click on a collection name in the Favorites drawer to rename or delete it. When you delete a collection, all documents inside are removed from favorites — the documents themselves are not deleted.
Tap the star icon on any document in the Quip mobile app to add it to your favorites. To add to a collection, tap Favorites and select the collection. Note: you can add documents to existing collections on mobile, but you cannot create a new collection from the mobile app — create new collections on desktop first.
To remove a document from favorites on mobile, swipe left on the document in the Favorites list and tap Remove.
