Users report that the Chatter Publisher is missing, not loading, or appears as a blank box on a page. This guide covers the most common causes for this issue in both Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience.
Follow these troubleshooting steps, paying close attention to the section that applies to your user interface (Classic or Lightning).
These settings are foundational and must be correct regardless of which interface you use.
The Chatter Publisher will not appear on a record's page if Feed Tracking is disabled for that object.
From Setup, search for and select Feed Tracking.
Select the object in question (e.g., Account, Opportunity).
Check the Enable Feed Tracking box.
You must select at least one field to track.
Click Save.
The assigned Publisher Layout controls which actions (like Post, Poll, etc.) are available. If no actions are assigned, the publisher will be empty or may not appear at all.
In Lightning Experience:
Click the Gear icon > Setup.
In the Quick Find box, enter Publisher Layouts and select it.
Review the layouts to find the one assigned to the affected user's profile.
Ensure there are actions (like Post, Poll) dragged into the 'Mobile & Lightning Experience Actions' section.
Click Save.
In Salesforce Classic:
Click your Name > Setup.
Under "Build," navigate to Create > Global Actions > Publisher Layouts.
Find the layout assigned to the user's profile.
Ensure there are actions in the 'Mobile & Lightning Experience Actions' section (this section controls both Classic's feed-based publisher and Lightning).
Click Save.
These steps apply only if your users are in the Lightning Experience.
The component may be intentionally hidden by a visibility filter on the Lightning Page.
Navigate to an affected record and click the Gear icon > Edit Page.
In the Lightning App Builder, click on the Chatter Publisher component.
On the right-hand panel, check the Set Component Visibility section for any active filters that might be hiding it from your users.
The page layout containing the Chatter component must be correctly activated for your users.
From the Lightning App Builder, click the Activation... button.
Review the current settings. Ensure the page is assigned and active for the correct App, Record Type, and Profile combinations that your users belong to. If a user's context doesn't match an active assignment, they will see an older or different page layout.
