Field-level help text in Agentforce Sales (formerly Sales Cloud) and Agentforce Service (formerly Service Cloud) allows administrators to provide users with helpful descriptions of an organization's fields. Users can view this text by hovering over the Info icon next to a field on detail and edit pages.

The character limit for field-level help text was expanded in the Spring '21 release from 255 to 510 characters, allowing administrators to provide more detailed guidance. This increase applies to both standard and custom fields on detail and edit pages. For example, if you are creating a custom Account field in Sales and need to provide detailed guidance to your sales team, you can include up to 510 characters of explanatory text — double the previous 255-character limit.

This limit applies automatically to all standard and custom fields on detail and edit pages. No configuration is required to use the expanded limit.

Important:

The 510-character limit is hard-coded and cannot be increased further. No limit increase request is available for this limit.

Field-Level Help Text

To add or review field-level help text on a field:

  1. From Setup, go to Object Manager and select the relevant object.
  2. Select Fields & Relationships and click on the field you want to edit.
  3. In the Field-Level Help section, enter or review the help text. The maximum allowed is 510 characters.

Note:

If you require more context than 510 characters allows, consider splitting guidance across multiple fields or providing a link within the help text to an internal knowledge resource.
