INVALID_FIELD Error When Importing Data Using the Salesforce Data Import Wizard.

Publiceringsdatum: Apr 3, 2026
Beskrivning

When using the Salesforce Data Import Wizard to import records, a summary email is sent upon completion. If errors occur during the import, the email includes an attachment (error CSV file) listing each failed row and its error code. A common error in this file is INVALID_FIELD, which indicates that either the data in a field is formatted incorrectly for that field's data type, or the column header references a field name that does not exist on the object. This article explains both causes and how to resolve them.

Lösning

Of the two potential causes, the more common is due to unsupported formatting, for example, importing 12.02.2020 into a Date field instead of YYYY-MM-DD or MM/DD/YYYY. To fix this example error:

Change Formatting in the CSV File

  1. Open the error csv file you received as an attachment in the summary email after the initial import
  2. Click the gear icon in the top right corner of the Salesforce screen
  3. Select Setup
  4. Click Object Manager
  5. Select the object that you are importing into
  6. Select Fields & Relationships
  7. Find the row for the field you want to import into
  8. Confirm the data type for the field, this example being a Date data type
  9. In the error csv file, change the formatting in the cell identified in the error message to a supported format, this example would update MM.DD.YYYY to either YYYY-MM-DD or MM/DD/YYYY
  10. Save the error csv file
  11. Perform the import again using the error csv file
