How to Provision Quip with Salesforce, Part 1: Initial Setup

Veröffentlichungsdatum: Aug 25, 2026
Beschreibung

This article covers the first phase of provisioning Quip with Salesforce — the Salesforce-side configuration required before users can access Quip from Salesforce records. Completing Part 1 prepares your Salesforce org for the Quip Document Component and sets up the user permissions and OAuth connection that Quip requires. Follow Part 2 for domain configuration and advanced settings after completing these steps.

Lösung

Step 1: Install the Quip Setup Starter Package

The Quip Setup Starter is a Salesforce managed package that adds the Quip Document Component and supporting configuration items to your Salesforce org.

  1. In Salesforce Setup, go to AppExchange and search for Quip Setup Starter, or navigate to the package installation URL provided by your Quip representative.
  2. Click Install and choose to install for Admins Only initially — you can grant access to additional users after testing.
  3. Wait for the installation to complete. You receive an email confirmation when the package is installed.

Example: A Salesforce administrator at a 200-person sales organization installs the Quip Setup Starter package in a sandbox org first, completes the configuration and testing, then installs it in production — following the same steps in both environments.

Step 2: Assign Quip Permission Sets

The Quip Setup Starter package creates two permission sets in your org:

  • Quip User: Grants users access to the Quip Document Component on Salesforce record pages. Assign to all users who need to view or collaborate on embedded Quip documents.
  • Quip Admin: Grants administrative access to configure Quip Document Components and settings. Assign to Salesforce administrators and any users who will manage Quip configuration.

To assign permission sets:

  1. In Salesforce Setup, go to Users and open a user's profile.
  2. In the Permission Set Assignments section, click Edit Assignments.
  3. Add the appropriate Quip permission set and save.

Step 3: Configure the Quip Connected App

The Quip Setup Starter creates a Connected App in Salesforce that authorizes the Quip-Salesforce OAuth connection.

  1. In Salesforce Setup, go to App Manager and find the Quip connected app.
  2. Click Manage and then Edit Policies.
  3. Set Permitted Users to All Users may self-authorize (or restrict to specific profiles as needed).
  4. Set IP Relaxation to Enforce IP restrictions or Relax IP restrictions based on your organization's security policy.
  5. Save the connected app policies.

Next Steps

After completing Part 1, proceed to Part 2 for domain configuration, SSO setup, and deploying the Quip Document Component to your record pages. See the links below.
