The ability to remove the current Einstein Recommendations catalog is a self-service option labelled "Catalog Drop", where a user can manually delete the current catalog (and it's associated information) from Einstein Recommendations. 

Typical Use Cases for Removing the Current Catalog:
  • If you are planning to overhaul or make extensive updates to the catalog that involve changing product code, Sku ID (or your unique identifier) etc. 
  • If you would like to remove historic items, or items that no longer have a purpose in your catalog 
  • If there are discrepancies or issues with particular products - most notably a product code and UUID mismatch. 

Considerations for Removing the Current Catalog:
  • All on-going Einstein Recommendations processes - including email recommendations, web recommendations, and behavioral triggers will be interrupted until a new catalog file has been uploaded and mapped
  • The catalog drop will remove all catalog items, but will not delete existing lists or profile information. In practice, this means that if a catalog drop was performed - and an identical catalog file was uploaded, lists like top sellers, top enjoyed, view view, etc. would resume functionality. If an entirely different catalog file is uploaded, previous list data would no longer be applicable, and new visitor activity and data will be required to update lists. 
  • Behavioral Triggers Data Extensions' data may be rendered ineligible for sending if products are changed. 

How to Remove the Current Catalog: 

To drop a catalog navigate to Email/Web Recommendations >> Reporting >> Admin Tools >> Catalog and drop the catalog. 

To Upload a New Catalog: 

Navigate to admin >> Catalogs and import your most recent catalog file.
