Distributed Marketing Email Preview failed troubleshooting

For troubleshooting possible causes when the Preview Emails fails within Quick Send or Campaign Send Preview for Distributed Marketing.

These errors are related to Marketing Cloud side of the configuration. Will have generally have the message to reach out to your Marketing Cloud Admin to resolve.

1. Personalization has not been mapped to Profile Center and are being utilized. If Personalization is being used and not properly mapped the preview will fail.

Ampscript Function Attributevalue can resolve the errors, as a workaround if creating profile attribute is not desired. Below is an example on using the function with firstname field.

2. Email does not qualify as a Commercial Send.  All messages sent through Distributed Marketing are considered Commercial. Commercial messages must include a mechanism to unsubscribe, the physical mailing address of the sender, and a notice of advertisement if unsolicited. For commercial messages, we check for the presence of an unsubscribe link.

3. If images are failing to load, ensure images are using HTTPS and not HTTP as Distributed Marketing only supports HTTPS Images. Configure your custom hosting domain to serve up HTTPS secured links. Also when using Distributed Image Block select at least one image to not have possible rendering issues.

4. General Ampscript errors well cause the preview to fail. Previewing the email in Marketing Cloud will generate more detailed errors on what is occurring.



Errors associated to Salesforce Configuration. The error message will most likely contain a message to reach out to your Salesforce Admin.

1. The user may lack the proper DM Administrator License or DM Standard License to see preview. If user does not have the correct permissions. Follow below Documentation to assign correct license.

2. IP address are being blocked by your Salesforce Org. They will need to be added to your IP address Allowlist.
  • Go to Setup within your CRM
  • Click Security Controls
  • Click Network Access
  • Enter the IP address ranges listed here
  • Save the allowlisted IP address ranges

3. Security Settings can also block the preview from rendering properly. This one is usually displayed by a spinning wheel. Session settings or CSP are both common causes. Adding domains to trusted sites will allow the security settings to be used in most cases. Inspecting with browser dev tools can used to find what domains are causing issues.

4. Personalization Field Mappings has been made incorrectly and is causing the preview to fail. If a mapping has been made to field that does not exist it will cause the send preview to fail.

5. Not having permission to view the contact or lead that is being to sent to. Including the required fields for the send.
