Understanding the "LogoVersion can't be specified without Logo" Deployment Error in Salesforce

When deploying a Change Set that includes a Lightning App (defined in App Manager), Salesforce may throw the error "LogoVersion can't be specified without Logo" if the app in the source environment does not have an image (logo) associated with it.


This error occurs because the Change Set metadata includes a LogoVersion reference that expects a corresponding Logo file to be present. When no logo has been uploaded to the app, the metadata becomes inconsistent — the version reference exists but there is no corresponding logo asset to deploy.
This issue affects deployments via Change Sets and may also appear in deployments via Salesforce DX or Metadata API when a Lightning App's metadata includes a LogoVersion without a Logo.

Steps to Resolve the "LogoVersion can't be specified without Logo" Error

To resolve this error, add and then remove an image on the affected Lightning App in the source environment before re-creating the Change Set. This process clears the orphaned LogoVersion metadata reference.

Steps to Fix the App Causing the Error

  1. Log in to the source environment (the org from which you are deploying the Change Set).
  2. Navigate to Setup > Apps > App Manager.
  3. Click the dropdown arrow next to the affected app name, then click Edit.
  4. Click Upload next to the App Image field.
  5. Select any image file to upload.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Reopen the app in App Manager and click Edit.
  8. Click Clear or remove the image you just uploaded.
  9. Click Save again. This clears the LogoVersion metadata reference.
  10. Create a new Change Set, add the app and any related profiles.
  11. Upload the Change Set to the target environment and deploy.
