There is currently no limit for the amount of rows that can exist within a Data Extension.    This means that, without Row Based Data Retention, a Data extension can grow exponentially without any real upper limit.  Data Extension Extracts that target Data Extensions that have an excessive physical size may not complete successfully or be stopped.   This may happen due to the amount of processing resources that they consume while executing.   
Løsning

In order for Data Extension Extracts to complete successfully their target Data Extension should be limited to have less than 30 million rows/10+ columns.  This can be accomplished with Row Based Data Retention and, if necessary, data from the Data Extension can be staged in a new Data Extension.   A Query Definition can be used to move data from the existing Data Extension into a new, much smaller, Data Extension.
