Campaign Management Best Practices for B2C Commerce

There are some things that can be done to more easily manage your online marketing activities relating to Campaigns within the B2C Commerce platform. 

Solución
  1. Before going live, delete all test campaigns in production and staging
  2. Use consistent naming conventions that are easy to understand for individuals who will be managing campaigns. Make it clear what the campaign contains without someone having to click into the campaign to view the details. Examples:
    1. 2024-02-19_Spring_BrandEvent_40PercentOff
    2. 2024_Sitewide_FreeShipping
  3. Campaigns and promotions do not have to have a 1-to-1 relationship
    1. Campaigns act as a container for activating one or more promotions, content slots, or sorting rules
    2. Multiple promotions can be grouped within one campaign as long as they share a common active date or qualifiers
  4. Create campaigns based on customer groups and active date. Sample structure:
    1. 1 campaign for all site-wide, year-long offers
    2. 1 campaign for all affiliate promotions
    3. Individual campaigns for unique, limited-time promotions
  5. Regularly clean out your campaigns: Delete any old campaigns that have run their course. The timing of the clean-out should be based on the cadence at which you add new campaigns, i.e. quarterly or yearly.

For a functional campaign/promotion configuration, we advise having a maximum of 400 items on the production instance. Keep in mind that the method used to determine active promotions is based on date and qualifiers e.g. source codes, coupons and customer groups. Having too many items will make these functions run slowly because the engine evaluates the conditions each time and only then evaluates the qualifiers of the current customer.

 

Note: Disabling a campaign/promotion is not sufficient because the evaluation engine still runs a check against all campaigns and promotions.
