When utilizing a Custom Profile for the Salesforce System User for Marketing Cloud Connect, you can run into issues within Marketing Cloud with functionalities that rely on the integration. The issues can include the following:

  • Activating a Journey
  • No objects appear in Synchronized Data Sources
  • Some objects are missing when attempting to set up a new object in Synchronized Data Sources
  • Fields are not visible into marketing cloud while syncing them into data source or setting up during journey configuration which uses salesforce data entry/Sales cloud activities
  • Partial data retrieve into marketing cloud due to lack of access on object

  • Per the documentation below, the System Administrator Profile is recommended for the Salesforce System User.

    Marketing Cloud Connect User Types and Permissions

    Due to the complexity of sharing rules, Marketing Cloud Support can not provide assistance troubleshooting permission/sharing issues for a System User with a Custom Profile. For custom use cases begin by creating a Custom Profile based on the System Administrator Profile and limit as needed and test to ensure you still have functionality on the Marketing Cloud side.
  • If business requirement is specific to use custom profile then have View all/modify all system permission under that profile along with view all/modify all access to all objects which is required in marketing cloud.
