Create Sharing Rules to Retain and Control Guest Users’ Access to Products

At Salesforce, we understand that the security and protection of your data is critical to your business. To further protect your data, Salesforce is making the Create Sharing Rules to Retain and Control Guest Users’ Access to Products release update available to enhance your org’s security. 

When enforced with the Summer ’22 release,  the update secures access to product records by removing default guest user access, giving you better control over unauthenticated access to product records.. Read on for more information about the change and how to prepare today to avoid impact before the Summer ’22 release.

Enforcement Timeline
The update is enforced with the Summer ’22 release schedule. To get the major release upgrade date for your instance, go to Trust Status, search for your instance, and click the maintenance tab.

Determining Impact
This change applies to guest users in Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic in Essentials, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions.
After the change is enforced with the Summer ’22 release, guest users may lose access to product records they had accessed previously if guest user sharing rules have not been updated.

Customers should test the release update in advance of enforcement with the Summer ’22 release schedule using these steps:
  • From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Release Updates, and then select Release Updates.
  • Go to the Archived tab, locate the release update Retain Guest Users’ Access to Products.
  • Follow the testing and activation steps which include options for continuing guest user access to products.

Mitigating Impact
If you create guest user sharing rules, we recommend testing the rules in a sandbox before the enforcement date to ensure expected behavior:
  1. Evaluate whether guest users need access to product records in Summer ’22.
  2. To give guest users product access, create guest user sharing rules.
  3. Test your guest user sharing rules.
    • From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Product Settings, and then select Product Settings. Select Enforce secure record access for guests accessing products. Verify that guest users can access products according to your new rules. The setting Secure guest user record access isn’t applied to products in Spring ’22. It will be applied in Summer ’22.
    • Sharing rules that restrict access can interfere with customizations. Review and test all customizations such as flows, validation rules, and Apex triggers to ensure that they’re compatible with your new rules.
