B2C Commerce - Hype/Flash Sales Checklist

Date de publication: Jul 31, 2025
Description
  1. Consider using a waiting room solution as this can be helpful in controlling the initial surge of storefront traffic at the beginning of a sale.
  2. While load testing prior to the event, ensure that not only the site but also the 3rd party service endpoints can handle the expected load.
  3. If you handle inventory outside the platform, your inventory endpoint should be responsive (<500 ms average response time) to avoid storefront slowness and/or order processing delays.
  4. If you handle inventory within the platform, ensure that you are not reserving inventory until checkout begins.
    • If you handle inventory prior to checkout, make sure you are showing the add2cart button when [ATS - Reserved] > 0 instead of showing it when ATS > 0.
  5. Basket Reservation duration is 30 minutes by default. For peak sale events, we recommend reducing this to 5 minutes or less.
  6. Do not use unique parameters e.g. customer IDs or email addresses in the URLs embedded within your email blasts. This completely removes the advantages provided by caching, reduces the cache hit rate and can lead to performance issues.
  7. Consider using the 404 Error Caching functionality available under Administration > Global Preferences > Feature Switches since 404 errors are not cached by default.
  8. Do not clear/invalidate page cache in close proximity to the start of the sale.
    • Any cache invalidation needed should take place at least 15 minutes prior to the sale which will ensure that the cache has adequate time to warm up prior to the start of a peak sale.
    • Also consider using and invalidating page cache partitions instead.
