The goal of travel optimization is to minimize a vehicle’s travel distance while visiting each location. As time is irrelevant, this is the simplest method of travel optimization.
Travel optimization for Time-Based Routing and Schedule is more involved, as more factors are considered in providing the most optimal solution. Salesforce Maps allows users to choose between two different methods of optimization, providing different outcomes to solve for different business requirements. The method of optimization can be changed within the in-app user settings, on desktop or mobile, via the Routing and Schedule Optimization Setting. It is important to note that if the method of optimization is changed, a user must reoptimize and save existing Time-Based Routes and/or Schedule for optimization changes to reflect accordingly.
The goal of travel optimization is to end the shift as early as possible while visiting each location. It will ensure that any set appointment times are adhered to. Although travel time among locations is considered, it will not attempt to minimize the time a vehicle is on the road. As this method of travel optimization works to see all stops earlier in the shift, it is important to note that this solution may contain longer overall travel times. If travel optimization based on the least amount of travel time is desired, it is recommended that Least Windshield Time is used. Fastest Shift Completion is the default option for all users.*
The goal of travel optimization is to minimize a vehicle’s travel time while visiting each location. It will ensure that any set appointment times are adhered to. Salesforce Maps’ optimization engine analyzes traffic windows for all travel optimizations. As this method of optimization analyzes the entire shift duration (ex: 9:00am - 6:00pm), it is important to note that this solution may contain idle times at locations in order to prevent vehicles from sitting in heavier traffic. If ending your shift as earliest as possible and/or reducing idling times is desired, it is recommended that Fastest Shift Completion is used.*
