Add a Clone Button to Your Salesforce Records

When creating records in Salesforce there may be a situation where an existing record contains most of the information you need in a new record. Rather than manually creating an entirely new record and re-entering the data, you can Clone an existing record and modify only the information you need.

The following steps are for adding a Clone button to Opportunity records. These same steps can be used for most standard objects (like Accounts, Contacts, Leads) and all custom objects that support the clone action. Note that some standard Salesforce objects do not support this functionality. 

1. Click the gear/cog icon in the upper right
2. Click Setup
3. Click Object Manager tab
4. Click Opportunity
5. Click Page Layouts in the left navigation
6. Click Opportunity Layout
7. In the gray box at the top click "Salesforce Mobile & Lightning Experience Actions in the left column
8. Hold your mouse down on Clone in the right column and drag it down onto the page until you see it in green and then release your mouse
9. Click Save in the gray box in the upper left
10. Go back to Salesforce and refresh your browser
11. Click the Opportunities tab
12. Click on an Opportunity
13. In the upper right you will either see the Clone button, or you may need to click the drop-down to the right of the currently displayed buttons to see the Clone option
