Customize the Lead Industry Field Values to Align With Your Specific Business in Salesforce

Salesforce Starter (formerly Essentials) Edition comes with default values for the Industry field on your lead records. These defaults may not match the industry categories your business actually uses, so you can customize them to fit your business specifications.

Update the Industry Field Values

1. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and click Setup.
2. Click on the Object Manager.
3. Click Lead.
4. Click Fields & Relationships in the left navigation.
5. Click on Industry.
6. In the Industry Picklist Values section, you are free to rename, deactivate, delete, and create new values to appear on your leads as needed.

After you are finished creating your new values and removing the ones you do not need, simply go back to a lead record and refresh the page from your browser. You will now see the new Industry values specific to your own organization when creating new leads.
